  1. Hi,

I'm trying to convert an avi (encoded with h264 codec) to xvid with virtualdubmod. But everytime after a few % done I get an error (see picture).
I can play the files but I can't convert them. And I've tried using different versions of VDM and even virtualdub but always the same problem. I even tried using alternative convertors but it didn't work also.
I've read somewhere that it might have to do with the h264 codec.
Does anyone know a way to convert them to xvid or divx5?

    thanx a lot!

  3. Thank I've already read that thread. I've used the latest ffdshow and virtualdubmod still crashes. I guess I have to go looking around for some others .

Can't see that changing VdubMod would help since the crash appears to be in libavcodec which ffdshow uses for AVC decoding.

Does the player play ok via say mplayer?

  5. with VdubMod 1.5.10.1 it still crashes.
I play the files with windows media classic and it play just fine.
I guess I'll try some other versions of ffdshow when I get home.
But if anyone knows other solution please let me know.
    thanx

I had many problems when working with my first x.264 avi file, too, but at the end I could make it work. What I did was:
    - Uninstalled any previous version of ffdshow
    - Cleaned the Registry of Windows
    - Installed the latest version of ffdshow
    - Enabled its x.264 decoding to VFW

Also I guess that if you have any codec pack installed, it may be messing up your VD.

  7. I have uninstalled every videocodec, cleaned registry and installed ffdshow, but virtualdub still crashes . I have even tried different versions of ffdshow beside the 20050909 and the latest one.
    why doesn't it work?
