While I already have the ATI AIW PRO 9000 card, due to the false Macrovision that this ATI card provides; I'm considering buying the ADS DVD Express.

I understand that the DVD Express comes with it's own Capture software; the CapWizard 3.5, and the ULEAD software; but does this bundled software that comes with the DVD Express create good captures; OR, are there better Capture (not very expensive, or free) softwares available ?

I suspect that I can't use the ATI MMC capture software with the DVD Express; it's probably incompatible, and besides..it'll most likely re-introduce the false Macrovision that I'm trying to get away from when captureing my old VHS tapes.

    Any suggestions, recommendations ?

    Thanks !

Ooops; I forgot to add that I would like to capture my VHS tapes in Mpeg 2 format, I have tried VirtualDub in the past; was not at all impressed with the results; and I'd much rather save time by captureing directly to Mpeg 2, than capture first to AVI files, then encodeing to Mpeg 2.

    Thanks again

I had the ADS Instant DVD 2.0 for about 2 weeks. This is the "step up" model from the ADS DVD Xpress.

CapWiz (I downloaded the newest version from the ADS TECH website) worked well for me.

The problem that I had was that I wanted to use it mostly for recording from TV shows (when I am not home) and the CapWiz program is only capable of one scheduled recording at a time.

Nice quality though but in the end not flexible enough for my needs.

GreatSinatraFan, you might consider a TBC (to stop the false macrovision detection) instead of buying a new cap card.

Anitract..I agree, a TBC would be wonderful...but we just don't have the big bucks right now to spend..(in other words, my wife would KILL me if I were to spend money that we don't have )

Soooo; we make do with what we have..and the DVD Express looks like it might be a good (less expensive) alternative solution to the False Macrovision problems.. Well..we shall see.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

Ah come on, you know you want one. :P Well, anyway, you could always cut back on something to save for it...like, say, food...who needs to eat for a couple weeks?

  8. After dicussions on these boards, I bought a dvd instant express. Even with an amd 2800+ and 512 of ram, I lost sync every time I used it. I wouldn't recommend it, or at least try to test one on your system before you buy.

Yeah, Nelson; that's a good idea; Sam's Club has 'em on sale here in North Dallas right now for $59.99- I'll pick one up, but if it doesn't work as expected.. well..I can always take it back, Sam's has a good return policy.

    Thanks ! ~
