I'm outputing a Divx video into a SVCD but the video is taking too long to output to the file. A 45 minute video just took over 6 hours to make the SVCD file. Is this normal? It usually takes about 60-70 minutes or so for the same length on a captured video from a camcorder. I have Win ME running on a 1.3ghz computer with 256mb ram. The HD is 7200 60GB.

Hi jcikal,
Try a different, dedicated, encoder. There are plenty listed in the "Tools" section.
Also, a faster processor (CPU) and more memory (go for 1Gb - it's not that expensive nowadays) would really help. The speed and size of the HD has no bearing.
As for "is it normal", I can't comment coz my system is different to yours and I've never used Ulead to encode.
As for why a Divx AVI takes longer to encode than a DV AVI of the same lenght - my guess would be that it's because the Divx AVI, by it's nature, is a lot more compressed than a DV AVI, so the encoding has more work to do. Just an educated guess though - it might be something else. There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

Hi daamon, thanks for the quick reply. BTW, what is your system? maybe I can take a look at seeing how it works for me.

No problem.

Huge diference encoding from Dv avi as opposed to Divx. Just becaused they are classified as AVI does not by any means mean they are the same. AVI is simply a container. It's taking 6 hours because you need at least twice the CPU you presently have.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
Yeah if the source is MPEG-4/640x480/24fps,etc that's normal.
BTW...WinMe has problems with >512MB of RAM,although a faster CPU will definatly help. You might also consider getting WinXP,no 4GB file limit and better software compatibility.
