  1. I'm trying to use TMPGENC to cut an MPEG2 video, which has been converted to PAL from AVI. I specify the start and end frames in the edit window, but the resulting MPEG starts and ends about 6 seconds earlier that I requested. Why is this? Am I doing something wrong in TMPGENC?

  2. Apologies for replying to my own post.

I guess the answer is that MPEG files should not be edited except by a professional editing package. TMPGENC will only edit up to the GOP border, which means that there could be any number of pictures either side of my edit frame that form part of the same GOP.

It surprises me, however, that there could be so many frames (6 seconds worth) making up a GOP. Is this reasonable in a normal MPEG?

Moral: Make changes in the raw AVI first....

  3. 6 seconds are weird you are right. Usual GOP for PAL is only around 0.5 sec.

Maybe this is the simpleton in me but why not just edit when you author?
