I have a 230mb mpeg2 that I can make into a 50mb HTPC quality file @ 50mb or even handheld quality @ 12 or so mb, but I'd like to make it 3mb (for emailing) and still look good. 1. Is there a coec I can use to d that and 2. if so, what tool do I need for the convrsion? Aren't real files very small?

Really any screen size is ok - it's just to check it out before getting the DVD tomorrow. It's a 6min. clip.

WMV will work. Try windows movie maker (xp only). Does great and has multiple resolution options and you can specifiy your file size.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Hmm - didn't know it converted mpeg2s (have used it for DV AVI). I'll give it a whirl- can someone on a Mac watch it?

When previewing in movie maker, I don't see a picture - just sound....

    No. Everything has limitations.
In fact, most software that does too many things gives poor quality output.

You simply cannot cram that much code into on program and expect flawless high quality results. Just look at Windows.

Unless I'm doing something wrong, a 5mb wmv file from a 235mb mpeg2 looks pretty awefull.

It's 1/40th the size.... Make your target file 240x180.

Ok - will give that a go. Didn't see resolution choice but wll look.

Also, the reason I couldn't see the mpeg2 was 'cause of the snapstream audio decoder filter - make any sense?

Can't find resolution settings....Just size and for various devices...

Tried all the settings and not give that particular resolution.

Choose video for pocket pc and it will use a resolution of 208 x 160 (pretty close to that target)

Another option would be to select a higher file size output and then split it. You could make a couple of zip files if you need to email them and you have a limit.
