    Hi
I have norton internet secrurity 2004 running and have all the updates. Just recently, approx 5 weeks ago, I keep getting a security warning that I have no firewall turned on or no anti virus running. My windows secuity centre can't find the antivirus software and tells me that the fire wall is off. I have doone a coulple of scans and it detected a few files and repaired them. I have spy-bot and adaware running aswell. What I want to know is why does windows security tell me there is no firewall or it can't detect norton? Should I turn on the windows firewall & antivirus?

    Cheers

    Something is wrong there.

Personally I HATE norton, I've seen it screw so many machines. But if thats what you want then I'll accept it.

I'd try uninstalling it, reinstalling it then running the updates again. If it persist then something is wrong with windows.

    Hi there,

I haven't used Norton for a while, but I did have a promotional version of McAfee installed on my Dell. It was the full version (alledgedly) of McAfee Anti-Virus, but it only had a 90 day sunscription service. When its 90 days subscription had ended, the software shut itself off. I got the same indicator from Windows that my AV was off. When I looked at the McAfee Icon, I saw that it wasn't colored in like normal. When I logged in, it said that my subscriptions had expired and that I would have to buy a new subscription before it would continue to work. I promptly deleted it and installed the free AV from my ISP (Charter Pipeline). It's not a bad piece of software and the price was great .

Since you say that the Norton software is the 2004 edition, is it possible Norton's subscriptions have run out and its doing the same as the McAfee software? Again, I quit using Norton sometime ago, so I don't know what they might be doing now. Have you looked at the subscription information in you AV to see if it is out of date or not?

My brother has Norton Internet Security Suite 2005, his subscriptions are good through 2006, but he says that at least once a month (sometimes more), he'll get notified that his AV/Firewall isn't running. When he logs in to check, Norton says that he has to activate his software. So far it keeps letting him activate it online, but I'm sure that eventually, their activation server will wonder why he keeps activating his copy and flag him. And before anyone screams warez, his is a full legal copy downloaded directly from Symantec.

Little things like this have shied me away from Symantec (and McAfee for that mater)

    Hope this might help some.
