  1. I downloaded an avi file which is 16x9 widescreen. Anyone know what the correct setting is in tmpgenc in order to preserve the 16x9 aspect ratio? TIA!!

That depends whether you want to view the encided file in 16x9 (anamorphic), 16:9 (letterbox) or 4:3 (pan & scan)?

In that case make sure "Video arrange Method" is set to "Full screen" as a 16x9 image will completely fill a 4:3 screen when squeezed from left to right.

No, video arrange method will most likely be full screen keep aspect ratio and aspect ratio on the video tab will be 16:9.

  6. It's funny I've been doing it right all this time but I relied on the tmpgenc preview window too much which displays the converted 16x9 aspect ratio like a squished 4:3.

Use video arrange method 'Full Screen Keep Aspect Ratio'

    That should do it.
