  1. I got a new scart to analog cables and plugged in my video on there. Then with a firewire cable to the PC. I get blocks on screen, not even fluent. i tried putting a DVD player on there to see if it was maybe my video output but it stayed the same. Any ideas? could be my firewire port? We just bought the pyro A/V link, so i don't think the problem lies there. OS: Windows XP, Capturing software: Studio 9.

Are you "capturing" it as DV-AVI?

BTW fill in your computer details, it helps to know what kind of system you have.

  3. Yes i'm capturing it as dv-camcorder because i use the same port for the dv-camcorder. I'm getting some kind of error on studio 9, but i don't know what it sais. As it goes away directly, leaving a little piece in the down-left corner of my capturing screen.

Firewire: IEEE 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller

i also have another capturing card but it only has svideo.
video action! Multi-function PCI device. And my nVIDIA FX 5900XT has an svideo port for capturing too but doesn't seem to work.

EDIT: just tried it again to check if the error comes back. This is what it sais.

Pinnacle Studio Plus tries to initialise a DV- or Digital 8-camcorder through a 1394 port.

If you're trying to capture analoge video:
    1. Click on Setup -> Captureresource and select the right capturing equipement for video.
    2. Open the leftpanel on the forthgoing meter (capturingcontroller) and adjust the right entranceport for video in (consisting video or S-video)
If you're trying to capture from DV- Digital 8-camcorder.
    1. Check if your camcorder is on, stands in the mode VTR/VCR/play and connected to your computer through port 1394.

Sorry for the bad translation, but it was all in dutch and had to translate it So what exactly is it? What does he mean by open leftpanel?

Try this, open Windows Movie Maker and try capturing as DV-AVI. It doesn't matter what you use to capture from a DV cam with. Results will be the same no matter what you use.

If your cpaturing the footage with a MPEG2 or DVD preset through Studio9 that would be the cause of your troubles. 2.4ghz processor is not powerful enough to convert to mpeg on the fly. That is why I asked for youre details.

BTW I don't know what you mean by this but the only thing that is required for getting the footage off your digital video cam is a firewire cable.

  5. It's not the DV-camcorder i'm trying to capture from it's the videorecorder. I just set the dv-camcorder as an example that it works fine without the PYRO A/V link on for capturing video from my dv-camcorder.

I tried the windows movie maker but it doesn't recognise the firewire port. it only shows my gfx card and the video action card.

So you're saying the computer is actually to weak to capture it smoothly. What would be better then?

No it's too weak to capture and convert it to mpeg on the fly. As I mentioned above if your your trying to convert it to mpeg2 or DVD format your likely going to get a sub standard quality at best such as macroblocking.

Also I'm kinda getting loss here:

    ?
So neither the cam nor the DV converter are recognized?

No it doesn't show me the dv camcorder either. i dunno why, because it's just a 1394 port like usb that should recognise it.

I use an ADS PYRO AV/LINK, and it works great with certain softwares, but not good with others. I've had my best success with Adobe Premiere, and Vegas Video. VirtualVCR and a few others have worked for capturing too. In order to get Adobe and ADS to recognize my camera correctly, I had to follow install proceedures exactly...

  9. I have the ADS Pyro as well as Studio9 Plus and Scenalyzer. I don't use Studio with it, though I could.

    (1)
There is a button on the ADS which determines which direction the 'video' is to flow. Oftentimes, when you start Studio 9 or Scenalyzer (a program I use to capture DV-AVI instead of Studio), this 'setting' gets flipped and you need to reset it AFTER you start the program you wish to capture with. There is only one button on the ADS, if I recall (other than the power button), check its setting. (This sometimes happens because of #2 below).

    (2)
Perhaps the problem is that the program is trying to 'control' the ADS Pyro and cannot, thinking it is a camcorder that can be rewound and fast forwarded. In Scenalyzer, there is an option to turn off the tape-like controls and accept the input as if it was coming from a pass-thru device, which is what you want to do. Give Scenalyzer a try using the above info and see if it works.
