  1. HI,

I've just bought an old, original copy of this but cannot find any support patches for it. (Certainly nothing from Adobe since the software has been relaunched as Audition and they offer no retrospective support).

Can anyone with CEPro give me some advice on where I might find an update? I think there is at least one that was produced by the original manufacturers, Syntrillium.

I'd also be interested in hearing if anyone was successfully running this version with Windows 2000, as I'm having some installation problems as it was originally designed for Win95/98 and NT.

    Thanks.

  3. japniz,

Why on earth did you buy such an OLD version?

  4. VCD4EVER,

Many thanks for the link. I'm grateful.

    BARNABAS,

Cash, is the short answer. Audition is hopelessly beyond my budget, I've used Goldwave but found it wanting after the demo version of CEPro I'd used a couple of years ago and this old original was my max at around £50 with manuals. (I didn't want to use illegal software, either.) Unless you've got any better suggestions..?

Barnabas, it may be an old program, but I've never found anything better. I use version 2 but for some things it isn't as good as 1.2 was.

Japniz, although I now use version 2, I still have a cd with version 1.2 and all of the updates and patches somewhere. I'll dig it out and see if there is anything on it that might be useful to you. Do you have the mp3 plug-in for instance?

  6. I bought my legal version of Audition on eBay for about $90.00 us as I recall.

I understand about the money issues, but buying very old software seems a rather poor investment. Audition is great for use with video, which Cool Edit is not, but the audio part of it seems the same pretty much.

  7. VCD4Ever,

Have just tried the downloaded version and it won't run and measures 6mb. I think it must have corrupted. Could you possibly put the link up again for another try?

    RICHARD_G
That's kind of you. That would be great. No, I have no plug ins at all. (I thought Mp3 handling was native to this version, though?)

    BARNABAS
US$90 (£45/50) is about my budget. YOu clearly got a better deal than I could find. I'll be using it for repairing/cleaning up 15-20-year old audio tapes mostly, with possibly some mono to stero conversions from Viewcam soundtracks.

  8. VCD4Ever,

Thanks for re-doing the link. This time the download measures the correct size. When installing, though, I get a quick DOS window pop up and then nothing. Nor can I find anything inside CEPro to say if the patch has worked. Is there a way to check if the upgrade has been successful?

    RICHARD_G
You're right - there is no MP3 support in this version so any suggestions of how to obtain a plug in for it would be very welcome. Many thanks.

    Thanks all.

    I checked that executable too.
It says: "This program cannot be run in DOS mode"

Something is still wrong with it....

I will check my old archives for that cool edit too... 8)

  10. Thanks Doman. All help welcomed.

In any case, if the upgrade was successful, should I see '1.2a' on the Help info screen? Or is there another tell-tale way of checking to see if a patch has worked?

After quite a bit of searching on the web I found the correct CoolEdit 12a updater.

    I uploaded it here:
    http://rapidshare.de/files/5278895/CoolEdit12a_Update.zip.html
    (Use the free download link!)

And let me know if you need the MP3 plugin too.

  12. Doman,

Very many thanks for the link. Am downloading now and will post back on how it installs. I wonder why the other version didn't appear to work?

On plugins, yes please to any you might be able to point to - especially MP3.

    Am very grateful.

  13. Doman,

Yes, it worked!! There was an updater screen and instructions to follow and, once rebooted, CEPro read v1.2a when running! Many thanks, once again - and to VCD4Ever, too. I'm very grateful.

If there was any way of obtaining the Mp3 plug in, that would be great.
