I put a lot of videos on internet and have come to the crossroads needing wmv support in virtualdub. What I'm seeing is that microsoft has pressured vdub into dropping support for wmv.

I have v1.6.6 vdub but I'm seeing v1.3c that supports wmv is still available.

Am I going backwards by getting 1.3c?

What happens to my 'load processing settings' if I get 1.3c?

    Thanks

It's been a while since I used it but I believe vdub 1.3C only supports asf (wmv) v1,2,3 codec.

I tried a couple of wmv 7, 8 and 9 a while back and it didn't recognize them. Gave an illegal fragment error or something like that

  3. 1.3c is HUGE leaps and bounds BACKWORDS but if your just encoding stuff it may work....though it may not as well, wmv has changed DRASTICALLY since the days that it was enabled in vdub....that may have actually been before it was actually wmv!! if i remember right, it was actually .asf at that point...i havent had a use to try it yet.....i suggest you give tmpgenc a run if you havent already and output it to raw avi if you have the space to do so, or to something like mjpg then edit it as needed from there within virtualdub...you can give 1.3c a try as well, it may or may not work though...

You could always use Windows Movie Maker to output to DV-AVI then open that in virtualdub.
    If in doubt, Google it.
