What does everyone here use? I just got a new writer (Pioneer 110D - love it) and don't know what to pick up. Seems a lot of people use Nero, but it also seems Nero adds a lot of unneccessary add ons that I doubt I'll ever use. Do they only sell the $100.00 Nero Ultra or do they sell a more basic stripped down version? Can anyone offer me recommendations for a reliable, basic, reasonably priced program?

Burnatonce, DeepBurner are two freeware programs. A lot of us use DVDDecrypter for burning with DVDShrink. I use Nero also. I don't really use the other features of Nero, outside of DVD data discs and CD data discs.. There are more burning programs in 'Tools' to the left. <<<

The burning program you use is not really a important part of making a DVD. They mostly all do the same thing, some maybe a little easier or better. I also use TMPGEnc DVD Author for both authoring and burning at times.

I burn with DVD Decrypter as well. The ONLY issue with DVD Decrypter I can find is that since the software is not supported anymore, it is not updated for new burners and write strategies. With my hp dvd640e and Verbatim mcc0-004-00 discs, it will only burn at 8x while all my other software will burn at 16x. But it does burn FLAWLESSLY at 8x everytime.

Hi Ann, Glad you like the PIONEER as I was one who recommended this drive! Mine LOVES the Taiyo Yuden DVD-R media, TY02 and TY03. Not a coaster yet in over 100 burns.
As for burning software it depends on what you want to do. DVDDecrypter is a great program for backing up movies on DVD.
For basic DVD authoring there are NERO OEM suite software offers out there for just a few dollars.
Again, burning is a broad field. It depends on what you want to burn.

    Hi Steven,

Yes, thank you so much for that recommendation! I absolutely love the Pioneer 110. I should have bought one a long time ago, don't know why I held out. Newegg had it for only 46.00. (They finally came back in stock)

Thanks also for your advice on burning software. I used DVD shrink today and that worked great. Right now I'm looking for a program to use for burning files to DVDr discs as data. Any recommendations?

I use an inexpensive NERO OEM suite. This is just an example. I'm not recommending this seller:

This software is frequently shipped with optical drives in retail packages and is a good, general purpose burning/authoring program.
    Good Luck-Steve
