  1. Hi Guys,

Can any of you recommend a DivX DVD Player for under £50 that will play XVIDs?

I know there are list on the site but just looking for your opinion.

    Thanks

Well I was looking for one - wasn't too constrained on budget, though. I decided to pay extra (£99) and got one that's a dvd recorder, too: Yamada DVR-8400X from Maplins.

  3. Hi Lester,

Thanks for that. I was looking at the Yamada DVD Player but with so may DVD players out there it is always to get true opinions.

How good is the recording side?

I take it does do DIVX/XVID

I've been pleasantly suprised - just an analogue tuner, though, and only on + media. The odd recording I've done via the analogue tuner has been better than I thought - certainly better than the signal I get when I watch the analogue signal through my TV, so the tuner must be of reasonable quality.

It has numerous recording profiles, but no intelligent one where it gets the best quality for the length of recording. I've used HQ for DV recording. And SP for most of the stuff I record from Sky+ (2 hours per disk mode). SP looks pretty good - virtually indistinguishable from the source.

It has DV and USB inputs on the front.

Using DV input, it will control your camera, when you press record. The USB input allows you to connect mass storage type devices - like USB pen drives, or HD based media players.

Yup, does both - haven't used it for much of that, yet, though.
