As long as Nero is installed on your system, there is no problem installing upgrades Start Smart Icon or not. This sound more like sneaky WAREZ with someone fishing for a tricky way to download the upgrade and install it without Nero being present on the system. IF you do legitimately own Nero, it sounds like you have managed to uninstall it. If so, do the following.

    1. Reload the Nero software that you bought.

    2. Download the updates and run them.

  5. Thanks this has happened before, took forever to uninstall and install again. Was just wondering if there was something else I could try.

Took me a total of 67 seconds to fully install nero 6 reloaded and each up date about 15 secs.

As for thieftakers, if there is anything at all in the Ahead Nero folder in c:\Program files, delete it, then delete any ahead / nero entries in in your registry. BE CAREFUL. Re install the original version you used to have using the proper serial #. Now when you update, it will give you the choice for updating, click it, now you accept the license and next you will see your serial # on the final update window. Continue and it will install the up date. Unfortunately NERO updates are not simply little patches or a couple of megs of stuff that writes over a small portion of the program, they are really the complete updated program. So if you are updating Nero Burning Rom, you will be installing the whole package for that particular module of the complete nero suite. Same goes for all others.

Yes, you could purchase Nero. This is a version of Nero Ultra Edition that has made it's rounds on the P2P networks. After 42 days from install, your software is disabled and a worm bot is run which sends the contents of your address book, buddy list, default download folder, and default office folder to several IP Addresses. It also attempts to replicate itself across your network, but unfortunately it wasn't properly written and will fail in that network procedure.

Another fine product brought to you compliments of the freeware thieves soceity.

Since you've obviously done the install a couple times now, I might suggest you run your anti-virus program. You might also want to let everyone know on your buddy list and adress book that you are a thief and have possibly infected their systems as well with your software stealing tactics.

Without jumping to conclusion or at least posting a conclusion how can anyone expect to receive feedback on their problems?

The nature of community forum based tech support is that some posters will post spam, some people will post questions asking for more info, some will draw conclusions, while still others may offer advice. Looking at this topic I see several examples of each. A mature adult rationalizes this, however, name calling, especially derogatory name calling is one sure way to never receive any advice from even those who are helpful.

Ok folks let's call down a bit. thieftakers, have tried to remove any and all evedence of the previous install so you can the re-install the original perfectly clean? For whatever the reason, you previous install went up the river. It can happen. After you have succeeded, then download the up dates and install them one by one. It trully only takes a couple of minutes to install the original big suites. I can't comment on why it's taking forever on your machine. Anyway, good luck. I know I would be ver pissed if my Nero was acting up like that.

    Cheers dude!

  13. Thank you to JToolman and Soixante for your help. As for SCDVD I would quit giving advice to people if the help you try to offer only offends newbies such as myself.

This is supposed to be a help forum if you didnt realise NOT a forum to offend people. You shouldnt be so quick to jump to conclusions.

And a handle name means **** all. Grow up!

You have ownly wasted your time with your input on this thread, have a think next time. I have drawn this thread to the attention of the moderators, maybe they will do something about it.

Same thing happened to me with my OEM Nero 6 that came with my burner. I updated and lost the Nero Smartstart. To fix I uninstalled the OEM CD version and installed the downloaded updated files (Nero 6.6.016 and NVE-3.1.0.16) as a regular install (no CD) using the original (Nero CD) OEM registration code and everything worked fine.

    Correction.

I did not call him a thief. I explained one situation where this is known to occur. Yes, I did draw a conclusion as everyone else does in the multitude of topics that appear here. Without conclusions or hypothesis, how could anyone possibly answer a question? I merely pointed out one possible situation and advised this person that if that was the case, he or she should tell those people who might also be effected by this situation.

Since after posting my conclusion, the OP has stated this isn't the case, my conclusion was incorrect, but nowhere did I directly call this person a thief, nor did I use derogatory language (Violation of forum rules) in addressing the conclusion.

BTW, if that's all you can add to this topic RFB, maybe someone else has some growing up to do hmmm?

I'd be interested to know if Nero shows up in Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs - this may help to confirm if you've unintentionally uninstalled it.

You should really go via this route to uninstall programs if possible, as this invokes the uninstall routine as created by the software vendor, and will handle things like shared files (dlls, etc). IMHO you should only physically delete the folder out of Program Files if this method, or the uninstall icon in the program's start menu folder fails or is unavailable for whatever reason.

I'm led to believe that there are NeroClean tools available (you might have to google for them) which take care of cleaning up the registry settings for you - probably much safer unless you know what you're doing in there.

    Then try reinstalling Nero.

Implies he/she hasn't already purchased Nero = as good as calling a thief in my book.

Nice way to quote me out of context Jimmy Boy. The statement about being a thief was if my conclusion was true that the user should tell people in his address book that he's a thief. That's a big difference between calling someone a thief and telling others about your illicit trade.

I might suggest you re-read what I wrote but this time spend a little time actually reading the words before you quote people out of context.
