Hey friends. As you can see, I'm back researching media since I am finally replacing my Optorite with a new drive (AOpen 1616ARR).

I was wondering if you guys can answer a few questions about the media currently being sold on RIMA called "DVD+R 4.7GB, 8X, $0.29 ea., 100-Pack (Verbatim# 95086-OEM)". Hopefully some of you here have tried it.

    1. Is the media code MCC003 or something else?

    2. I have read some stuff here about fake MCC and Verbatim media. RIMA is a reputable company that I have used for a long time. Still, some reassurance about if the media is genuine would be good.

    3. If anybody has experience with this media, please post your opinion.

    Thanks!

Others have bought them (check CDFreaks). They are MCC003 manufactured in Taiwan by Prodisc. No fake Verbatim media has shown up in the US to my knowledge.

So any idea why these Verbatim "OEM" discs from RIMA are so cheap?

I also believe this is the situation. For now.

Although I've yet to confirm MCC being made by Prodisc for MCC. To date, all the MCC has been made in a CMC plant (just the location, CMC has no hand in it's creation). Prodisc is busy enough with it's own production of media.

A better deal is at Staples. SONY DVD+R with same YUDEN code is $8.94 per 25-pack. Saves a few bucks more.

You've yet to confirm MCC being made by Prodisc?!?! All you have to do is look at the hub serials. From what I've been able to gather, most of the printable MCC (4x and 8x, not 16x) is made by Prodisc. All of the Digital Movie Verbatims I've ever seen are made by Prodisc, aside from the 3-packs of +Rs which are actually made in Singapore by MKM. But don't take my word for it, check these links and look at the batch numbers:

  8. I have some Verbatim media that is supposedly MCC, but it is awful - I am yet to get a successful burn. Can't fast-forward/reverse without the DVD player stalling, data verifications constantly failing, video corruption during playback... I'm in the UK.
