NV3 DVD-RW issue and .rmvb to DVD

Ive searched this forum but it didnt answer the question im asking or wasnt what im after. Sorry if this is on the wrong forum as there were too many for me to decide where this shoudl go. Two questions:

1. Im using NV3 (NeroVision 3) to put my movie (.avi) onto DVD-RW. My hardware is Matshita UJ810 and Freecom FX50 DVD burners and TDK DVD-RW (disk). First time i did this using the Matshita and worked no problem. I did some of it wrong so made the changes and had to erase the disk (full erase not quick as NV3 doesnt recognise the disk on quick erase). Now i come to do it again i did the same but it doesnt recognise the disk. Went to my Freecom dvd burner and it recognised the disk so i did a full format. When it came to buning again both burners using NV3 dont recognise the disk (all is fine in device manager and the disk is listed in windows explorer) but inserting a DVD-R is recognised no problem both burners can burn DVD-RW. Im lost to say what the problem coudl be. Anyone got any ideas?

2 Im also trying to burn .rmvb to DVD-R /RW but cant find any codec that does this anyone know of one? i searched this forum where i found one but i coudlnt get it to work/or the link was dead)

If you believe using another software would fix this please advise.
