I'm using Nero 6/Recode and burning a backup onto a HP DVD-R 8x disc. I'm burning at 2x. Seems every other type of disc works in this machine except these DVD-Rs... Haven't tried any other brands but figure HP is pretty reputable. I've played the burned DVD-Rs in another machine without a hitch. The Phillips hicups (starts, stops, starts, stops, starts). Any ideas? Besides play them in the other machine... I want all my discs to work in all my machines!![]()

quite honestly, id try another type of media, TDK media are generally pretty solid from my experiance...there's also a few other types out there that are pretty good...ive had very few problems with memorex or verbatim (though verbatim tend to be a little expensive around here at least) you should try and poke around the forums some as far as suggestions for other media types, because it sounds like its almost 100% positively the media...either that or your burners startin to die out on ya......i'd also recommend looking to see if you have the newest firmware available for your burner, because that can help in a lot of cases.....

I don't know about HP disks because I've never used them, but just because the brand name on the package is from a big company doesn't mean they're good. Looking at this link, it would appear HP disks are actually made by CMC Magnetics which are classified on nomorecoasters.com as 4th class media (-r format). Certainly my results with CMC have been horrible and I would suggest you try something else. To be fair, some people appear to have used them successfully, but they don't seem to be the majority.
For the last couple of years, I've been using Taiyo Yuden disks, without any problems whatsoever, on my DVP-642, or any other player I've used. For $20 you can get a 50 pack from Rima, and try them out. To make it easy on you, click here to go straight to the Taiyo Yuden selection at Rima. -
thanks for all your suggestions... guess I just made two discs in a row that didn't want to play. I've tried more now and they are flawless. Have yet to try the original discs I had problems with... Perhaps the player was just being picky at the moment. I did try turning the player off and back on initially without rectifying the skipping. All seems well now. Well, thanks again for all the suggestions!!!
