What I was thinking was a separate hardware category called other or misc.
As I envision it, such a category would be a place for hardware that doesn't fit any other specific category.
A place for things like VCRs, TBCs, Signal processors or other specialized devices.
The reason this came to me was recently I was in the market for a new VCR and other devices to use in S-VHS/VHS to DVD.
I now have the JVC 9911U and a TBC 1000 and a Pioneer 531 recorder. However my process would have been easier if I hadn't had to wade through tons of messages to see what others were using and what results they get.
I'm still in the market for a detailer and something to adjust colors and levels that has S-Video in/outputs. I currently have a 2 pieces of hardware for that purpose but they only have RCA jacks.
Anyway I'm fairly sure I'm not the only one looking for less mainstream hardware.
Another option would be to put such things in the current capture cards section and rename it to something like capture devices or Capture H/W, not the best name but off the top of my head what comes to mind.
Cheers

Well if they were to add an other or miscellaneous category things like cables and such could go there. Reviews on fiber optic cables and speaker wire. Things like that people ask about on a semi-regular basis on this site.
Could be worth it. We'll have to hear from the mods and baldrick. Thanks for suggesting itAnyone else have comments on this?
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Nah.
For basic capture hardware, the capture forum. VCRs, wires, etc.
For advanced playback hardware (TBCs, proc amps, detailers, etc), the restoration forum. That's really what it's for.
For DVD players, recorders, DV cameras, etc..
those all have their own forum categories.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

LS: My point was that making a place to easily look up reviews by other users would have saved me signifigant time. Time I spent using the search function and then wading through lots of messages. If I could have seen a selection of appropriate H/W I could have then narrowed my search quickly.
Forums are great for asking questions but are they the best way for reviews?
Maybe a H/W forum for things not covered at the left side under lists?
Or maybe they should just go under tools for hardware? Not where I'd look first though.

Oh, you did not mean a forum?
You meant a section similar to DVD HACKS and DVD RECORDERS, etc.
One of the "LISTS".
I get it.
Yeah, that'd be a great addition to the site.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

LS, Sorry I guess I wasn't real clear in the opening message.
Yes I meant a section on the left side of the screen.
Thanks for agreeing
