Okay, this is going to sound weird, but I have a fast machine with a Plextor 712A burner. I also have well-known good media and 3 set-top DVD players that will play just about anything.
Recently, my DVD burner started having buffer underrun errors all the time, and I had to uninstall some software (Roxio's stuff, mostly). After that, my errors disappeared, and my data DVDs burn fine, but now none of my burned DVDs will play on set top DVD players. The VIDEO_TS folder is there, and the videos play fine on my computer, but not in any of my DVD players. Oh, and my portable LaCie burner has the exact same results!
My power management is turned off. I have been using RecordNow MAX 4.5, but just recently switched to Nero Burning Rom. Both give me the same problem--DVDs that appear to be fine, but won't play on set tops. (Side note: all my CDs burn perfect.)
Any idea what the heck might be going wrong?
Thanks in advance for any hints/ideas/suggestions. (Cold, hard cash for real fixes.![]()

Test things out on DVD-rw
Re-install windows.... (Harsh )(2nd partition perhaps?)
install nero then install nothing else!
Test and burn, it should work, also burn at slower speeds eg 4x, post explorer view of a burned disk
install virtual drive software and create iso images, if these work then your media is the problem
Also test your discs on THREE different brands of settop players.
Cold, hard cash for real fixes.Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.
The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons. -
You know, I hadn't thought of trying a DVD-RW and seeing what will happen. I'll do that tonight.
I have tried 5 brands of media (Memorex, Maxell, ProDisc, Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, both - and + formats), so I am sure it's not a media problem. Set top players I'm testing with are Panasonic, JVC, and Cyberhome. Cyberhome starts to play, but locks up just a few seconds into it.
It's looking more and more like a reinstall might be my last hope. I'll try a DVD-RW and see what happens.
Thanks for the suggestions! I'll update the thread when I know more.
