This DVD+R/RW recorder was priced very reasonably (only $99 after rebate).
It supposedly has the LSI chipset for better picture picture quality so
I figured I'd give it a shot. It's amazing to me.....all kinds of neat
features added like USB, DV input, component video connections, etc.
then they go ahead and stick in a mono tuner. Although, almost all
recorders in this price range do have mono tuners as well.
The editing features are acceptable, but not the most convenient to
use compared to some other machines. When you freeze frame to
set a chapter mark, it doesn't set it exactly at that spot.
The tuner does do a good job (without altering the picture too much).
No color/tint changes....but maybe a tad bit darker.
So how's the video quality, anyhow? Well at HQ (one hour) it's top
notch. But then again so are alot of other recorders. At the 2 hour (SP)
setting, you do notice a slight "softening" of the picture, but it's pretty
darn good. Probably a little better than some others I've seen.
But now it skips all the way to a 4 hour mode. Nothing inbetween!
This speed is usuable, without much macro blocks....but the picture
detail just ain't happening. Didn't bother with the 6 hour mode.
All in all, a decent recorder if you can still get the $50 rebate.
I did end up returning it, but I had fun giving it a work out!
