  1. Hy guys.
    I have a tricky question.
Wich is the most compatible way of burning a double layer dvd?
I have a dvdrw smasung tsh-552u, that has bitrom setting.
Iīve treid to burn to dvds has a normal dvd movie in nero, and it palys fine in one of my standalone dvd palyers, but in the other donīt, it says that there is no disc.
Bitsetting has a couple of settings, could anybody tell me wich is the most compatible with all standalone dvd players, because if a comercial double layer dvd can paly in all dvd players, there must be a way of doing it with the ones we authored ourselfs.
    Thanks.

You will NEVER get a burned DVD that will play on all dvd player. I don't know too much about vbitsetting but I think DVD-Rom is the best. Maybe?????

Not sure cause I've never had a DVD/r backuo or original project that has refused to play on any of my 7 machines from cheap to $$$

I output everything to ISO and burn directly with DVD Decrypter. Backups are done with DVD Shrink with or without AnyDVD ( as required to break Arccoss ) and outputed to ISO / burn in Decrypter. The above applies to DVD5s

To do a dual layer ( DVD9 to DL ) backup I rip with DVD Decrypter to ISO and burn the same with Decrypter. Beware of crappy DL media!!!!!

I don't do that too often as the price for DL media is still too high to warrant backing up only the finest movies discs such as super bit releases of some movies.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

Set dvd+r to dvd-rom.Discs are a major concern also.Tried ritek, and memorex, which are also ritek.60% playback compatability so far.Verbatim works on the players that would not play ritek dual layer.

  5. There are still TONS of compatability problems with DL discs....much like when DVD-R came out. They are definately not ready for the real world yet.

I tried two Memorex DVD+R DL yesterday, with Roxio Easy Media Creator 7. Niether of them would play on anything. Not even on the computer. I think this is a crappy format. I'd like to try DVD-R DL, but I can't seem to find them anywhere!

Roxio is a CRAPY soft, not media.

OK heres my 2 cents worth.
My settop players will NOT play +R media. They will play +R RW media just fine. Go figure.
Anyway, with my MADDOG -/+ DL Burner ($50 at compusa), and changing the +RDL to DVD-ROM (in DVD Decrypter) No problems with burning or playing works like a champ. That is after a ROM update from 2F.6 to 2F.8. I also have changed the +R to DVD-ROM and that works just fine as well. THe only noticeable difference is that with -R media I can achieve burn speeds >10. However on +R media, I have never gotten over 6-7. This is with DVD Decrypter burning engine.
Lastly, in the for what its worth category, I have never seen any -R DL media here in the DC, Maryland, Northern Va area.

Is there any way of checking, other than buying a disc and trying it out, if my dvd burner is double layer?

To see what drive you have:

    Open up my computer
then highlight your dvd burner drive.
    Click properties, then hardware tab.
Go donw to your dvd/cd drive and tell us the brand and #'s following it.

Then we will be able to tell you if it is DL or not. If you bought the computer with in the last 6 months from BB or compusa, etc. Then there is a good chance that it is a DL burner

ok you have a Benq DW1620. It is a DL burner. It says it burns both -/+ media, but what I have found and others have said is that it likes the +media better. I recommed using verbatim or fuji(made in japan). Also, if your going to use DL+media I again must go with the verbatim. Here is a firmware update site http://www.cdfreaks.com/drive/573. To find out your current firmware download dvdinfopro. With my Benq I am currently running firmware G7P9. This firmware allows DL media to be burned at 4x. Hope this all helps.
