hey,
well this one has me nearly tearing my hair out. it has only came up recently in the past few months, some of the dvd's i burned seemed to pause/stick in parts on both of my aunts cheap Asda DVD player, which until now has played everything thrown at it.
i checked the dvd out on my pioneer DV-565A and Phillips DVDR 70, both of which played without a hitch. However on 2 seperate Yamada DVX-6700 units the problem was present, except from sticking at the points it simply skips over them.
so first thought is media, i hadnt been using it for that long, and as 4 seperate player showed similar error on exact same part of the movie. however 2 other types displayed the same problem, at different parts fro the original however.
so this puts it down to the burning process, the disc burns fine and it is read perfectly on my 2 higher price range players, aswell as any computer DVD Drive. if i leave my computer totally idle, 9/10 times the copy is perfect on ALL DVD players, but if i am working while burning in the background, opening docs, web browsing etc. this affects the disc.
since this problem has not been present before do you think there is some process or just in the computer in general interupting the laser causing hesitations, and the cheaper player is too sensitive hence pausing or jumping. while the better players can cope.
Or is the burner had its day, its done well for its year and a half (msi 4x -, 8x +)
So my dilema, do i reformat as its a comp problem or new burner? any ideas before i make the jump, lol
thankyou
Baz

Your computer seems fast enough to multitask, though if you are having burning problems, perhaps you shouldn't.
There may be something running in the background that is stealing CPU cycles. Try monitoring your computer with task manager and see if something is obvious. Anti-virus programs can sometimes cause problems.
I run Avast antivirus, Spybot S&D, SpywareBlaster. How much you surf the web and where you go determines what your exposure is to the nasties around these days. If you are a avid surfer, you may have a trojan or virus that is causing problems. If not, look elsewhere.
Most newer DVD burners have some sort of underflow protection that helps when the data to the burner is slowed. If that function is not working on your burner, that can cause problems.
Media is still a possibility, some burners are picky.
Try cleaning the DVD writer. Maybe dust?
Lastly, maybe your burner is showing it's age. They are cheap enough now that you might think about changing it out. I would try some of the ideas above, first, though.
