Is there a program that converts .m2a (mpeg 1 audio) to .aif?

I've tried quite a few already such as quicktime, itunes, ffmpeg, mpeg streamclip and even a few pc apps, but most think its a video file and get confused!

    Cheers

  2. I'm 99.9% sure Toast 7 can do this... I don't have an .m2a file to verify, but Toast can take any video file and extract the audio into a variety of formats, and can also take any audio and convert into a variety of formats, including AIFF.

  4. There is a free program called "MoreMissingTools" that will do MPEG audio decoding, including decoding layers 1, 2 and 3. You can find it on this page:
    http://homepage.mac.com/rnc/

MoreMissingTools is actually a GUI front end for (among other things) a UNIX tool called "mpg123" that does the actual decoding.

    Try mAC3dec
A picture is worth a thousand words, but a good camera is worth about a thousand bucks.

mAC3dec is for taking AC-3 Dolby Digital) audio and decoding it into AIFF or MP3. gavinmcnab doesn't have AC-3 audio, he has MPEG audio which is totally different.
