I have followed all the tutes on how to convert my avi to mpeg, and it seems to have gone fine. I think my problem lies in the burning.
My avi was in ntscfilm, does this mean I should burn it in Nero using ntsc? I thought maybe I would have to use PAL since I am in australia and that is the standard our doovits use. I have set the Nero settings up as per the guides, but some are contradictory. For example, am I creating a standard disc or not? Do I indeed fiddle with the ISO settings? Some say yes, others say no. The kids have a growing collection of cd frisbees and I would like to stop this please.
Also, my dvd player manual says the max it can take is a 74 minute vcd, does this mean it will not read 80 min vcds, even if i only use 74 min?

m_jelly,
First, make sure your DVD player supports CD-R/CD-RW. If it doesn't, then you're out of luck. Whether, if your player can read 80 min disc, I don't know because usually in the US, it only restrict on the format that the disc is in. Plus, check your player to see whether it supports NTSC or PAL. Follow what your player supports. Don't make something that your player aren't able to support, otherwise, you'll be wasting your time. ie. If I bought a player from Asian (which uses PAL), then my disc will be in PAL format. Reasonable? Good Luck, Jordan -
Firstly, if your source is in NTSC-FILM, then you can made a NTSC-FILM VCD. This has the same general specs as NTSC except that the framerate is in 23.976 fps.
A framerate conversion (e.g., 23.976 --> 25 fps) rarely turns out well...
Make sure your DVD player supports the reading of CD-R or CD-RW media.
Most DVD players will be able to play 80 min media (assuming it can read CD-R).
Most equipment in Australia should be able to handle both PAL and NTSC. If your TV is a multi-systems TV, then set your DVD player to output in "AUTO".
If your TV is not multi-systems, then you will have to force the DVD player to output in PAL. Usually, the DVD player will convert the signal from NTSC to PAL-60 which should still work on the majority of PAL TVs.
As for authoring/burning your disc with Nero, make sure that you set it to create a VideoCD, not a CD-ROM. VCDs are not CD-ROMs. Then, just use the default settings.
Regards.
