I have the 530 which I just picked up and I like it. It seems to work well. I think I will pick up a 642 just to see the differences between the two players. My thoughts right now are those of upgradability. I noticed that LG doesn't have any firmware updates listed that I can find on there site or trolling the net. The Philips does. I think that going with something that is more supported seems to be a better idea than going with something that is not. If the Divx standards change I would like to think that my player can adapt and with no support that really won't be the case.
Your thoughts?

I have the 531, which I believe it very close to the 530, and compared it with the Philips. I took the Philips right back. The video quality is much better, it has long files names and what clinched it for me was XVID 16x9 enhancement on the 531, which the Philips doesn't do. I'm not sure about the Philips, but it also handles Packed Bitstream with no difficulties.
By the time DIVX standards change, Philips will have a new player out with no more upgrades for the 642.

None of the firmware upgrades for the 642 corrected or updated file playback. The only changes/updates were for subtitles and macrovision. Even thought I'm happy with both of my 642's, sounds like the 531 may be better.
