I am looking for an inexpensive recorder that can write to dvd-r/rw and read dvd-r/rw and cdr/rw and play mp3's. I have looked in the list but I wanted to know people's opinions what to buy. I was planning to get a network card and extract video off the series 1 but I was planning to get a recorder anyways.

Another possiblity is put a nic in the series 1 tivo and extract the video to my pc and convert it with tytools, edit burn it.
I just don't know which would be better a standalone recorder or extract
