Your SONY drive is a REBADGED LITEON drive. What software are you using to backup dvds? DVD DECRYPTER? DVD SHRINK? Look at the GUIDES at the left<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<on how to backup and burn DVD's.

If the drive can be returned get a BENQ 1640 which is better than a REBADGED LITEON or get the SONY 810a that is a REBADGED BENQ 1640.

The PLEXTOR 740A is a REBADGED BENQ 1640. My suggestion would be to get the BENQ 1640 drive which is so cheap compared to the PLEXTOR 740, you could buy 2 BENQ 1640 drives with the price of 1 PLEXTOR 740. Just my 2cents!!!!

What brand of dvd media are you using? Good rule of thumb is to use good quality dvd media not the cheap junk stuff. Use FUJI (TAIYO YUDEN), MAXELL dvd media that's MADE IN JAPAN.

well, im not so sure about the media
but i tried branded dvds, like imataion and samsung

but i i see ppl using unknown dvds and it work all fine with them
i dont know what they r doing

ill try to check the media and use good one and see

but after all, the drive im using
is it good one which i can rely on if everything is ok??

cuz im takin it back and wanna know if i only
change the drive to the same one
    or take other one?

use DVDINFO PRO or DVD IDENTIFIER to find out the MEDIA CODE/MANUFACTURER. Brand names mean nothing unless you know the MEDIA CODE. Some brands use many different manufacturers such as MEMOREX uses CMC which is junk in my opinion, MAXELL (MADE IN TAIWAN) uses RITEK which is so so....I would strongly suggest you either use good quality dvd media as I already mentioned in my other post to you or return the SONY drive and get a BENQ 1640......

P.S. check out the dvd media section on this site...you'll see how many brand names will use other manufacturers and you'll see the MEDIA CODES.
