Has anyone attempted to refill the ink cartridges in the Epson R200? I took a cartridge apart to see how it was constructed. There is no sponge as in a lot of cartridges. There was a labyrinth of small chambers. The ink does not flow between them all. There is a small spring near the back of the cartridge that makes me wonder if it is some sort of simple solenoid pump that moves the ink from one part of the cartridge to the other. There was no obvious way to refill the cartridge. Am I missing something?

  2. It's a messy process !

Do a Google search for Negative Pressure Refil and see what you get - basically you have to suck up the ink through the chambers and then reseal the cartridge.

You may find generic cartridges use a different design (eg the more traditional sponge), but the genuine Epson design is an epic construction with vents, diaphragms and wotnot - no doubt designed at least in part with stopping us lot refilling them in mind.

Sadly the days of just squirting some more ink in seem to be gone. Shock, horror !!

I did a little research and found that the R200 cartridges have a "Smart Chip" that must be reset after filling. I found a web site http://www.epsonchipresetter.com/ that sells a device that resets the chip. They also have refills that are designed to refill the Epson R200 cartridges. They have all six ink colors in the kit.

actually, from indivisual cartridge, Epson already changed the sponged one to spongeless cart.
nowadays, they are not using sponge to control ink usage but "chipset" to produce more unescessary cleaning cycles.
