  1. Expletive Deleted this explains why I get so frustrated trying to do this online. You are trying to solve a frame drop problem, you state that you have a condition with the desired capture type that does NOT drop frames, which leads to a definite solution, then you state that this is inaccurate. Expletive Deleted up one more time and I am done with you, is that clear?

So VirtualVcr makes it Possible to capture AVI? That's nice, now the issue you were having with AVI was an audio de-synch, was it not? And you do not find it necessary to mention whether or not you happen to have any audio synch issues when capturing AVI with VirtualVcr? Does it not seem Glaringly Obvious that this would be pertinent information?

I would really like to know how you are able to hear the audio before the video in an avi CAPTURED WITH NO AUDIO????? As in it would be silent?

30 seconds or less looking at the menu choices in both Vdub and TmpGenc should answer some questions for you. You also need to read some guides.

Original question concerning audio bitrate, Pinnacle software SPECIFICALLY mentioned several time as preferred (it is a complete piece of crap, BTW) audio issues concerning filesize specifically mentioned, and you manage STILL not to give the audio bitrate or even filetype for the Pinnacle capture.

I laid it out for you, what I could do and what was necessary from you to achieve that goal. You ain't holding up your end.

Your choice, no harm no foul.

btw) You don't have to capture uncompressed.

You can use video compression with virtualvcr. Under settings (the hammer icon) , video, and check the box "use compression". Then click on the down arrow to select whatever avi codec you have on your system and then "prop" to set the codec properties such as bitrate etc.. You can set the audio codec in the same way. Audio compression uses more cpu but with your system that shouldn't be a problem.

If you use the divx codec try an easy bitrate of about 2000 Kbs or less to start and see if you drop frames. Also check to see if it's in synch.

I really don't know where you get that information. OF COURSE I've captured WITH audio. That's the whole idea...!

And yes, with virtualVCR, there is no audi-video sycnhronisation problem.
So, now this time, wil you answer my question, please: Which tool do I use best in order to convert from a BIG AVI file to a valid MPEG2 file?

And...I bought Pinnacle. Nothing to do about that. I have the soft now and I have to use it. I know a couple of thousands users who have no problem at all to edit. So I also want to use pinnacle..

Thanks for this detailled and brief help.

If I try to compress vith VirtualVCR I get some errors: "unable to render video".
I tried several bitrates and several video and audio codecs like: Mjpeg, Pinnacle Mpeg 2, Divx 6, Huffyuv,...

You can't capture mpeg1 or mpeg2 with virtualvcr. Unfortunately, some codecs like some of the ones you mentionned will show up in the compression window but can't be used because they are proprietary. The divx codec should work but I haven't tried version 6 yet.

If it captures ok but fails to render (play) after the capture then you may be missing some video or audio decoders or you may not have installed them properly. Codecs need to be registered before they can be used and the install program usually takes care of that for you. Sometimes when you add a new codec and don't remove the old one it can cause problems.

Do you have ffdshow installed on your system. That should help you play most formats. Also you might try the free program media player classic to play your videos instead of windows media player (if that is what you are using).

btw) some compression codecs are picky. They expect the resolution to be divisible by 4 or to be of a certain format like rgb or yuv2 etc.. If you choose the wrong options you can also get the error msg you are getting.

  6. OK, now I understand the problem. There must be some sort of brain damage.

Go back and read my question #4. Read your numbered answer, and then your second answer in a later post. You have clearly stated, on two seperate occassions, that you captured an AVI with soundcard physically removed and onboard audio disabled and still get an AVI with the audio out of synch. This is simply not possible. I will not expend the time or effort to explain why this should be done as a troubleshooting step.

I conclude that you are either unable to read, or have some sort of disconnect between reality and what you are typing.

IMO, this problem will not be solved in a reasonable amount of time with your hands on the keyboard and your eyes on the screen. I'm done.

    Good luck to you.

and BTW, just because you bought a piece of software, there is no requirement that you HAVE to use it. Particularly when there are free alternatives that are better.

I had already the same impression of you, likewise...
I have never seen some arrogant posts yet as yours. I don't like to be threath or treated without any respect.

Unbelievable that someone with your attitude is not yet kicked off this forum!

If you want to capture to MPEG without problems, you need to look at something like an ADS PYRO AV/LINK, or the Plextor unit, and use decent software like Adobe Premiere, or Vegas Video.
