Hi: I want to purchase a video capturing and encoding device that can capture digital video from a camcorder using S-video and convert to Mpeg for VCD and/or DVD writing. Since the PC I have is not very high end, I want the device to be able to do the encoding to MPEG. I have tried DVC 150 and not very happy with it. Any other similar device in the market other users in the forum have ha good experience?

    Thanks
    Ravi

I recommend the hauppauge wintv pvr250. It has svideo input and captures directly to mpeg2 or vcd/svcd. It has minimal system requirements (p3 minimum I believe). It also doesn't tax the system very much. You can run other programs and won't drop frames.

    I agree.
I have the PVR-250 and it is great!
Very light on resources. Runs fine on my old PIII 866 Mhz machine.
I often convert Mini-DV to DVD via Analog. Picture quality is excellent. There is a lot to be said for a bit of Analog filtering before encoding to MPEG-2.
