Is it possible to import an mpeg2 into Nero recode? I have a movie that's too big to fit on a regular DVD, and Nero can't seem to shrink it to one - says I need a dual layer...Don't want to use a dual layer.

What I did was burn the DVD to the hard disc and then recoded the video ts file.

Sounds like Nero is trying to tell you it is incapable of following your instructions. If you want to fit a SL DVDR, you should be able to. Either you're missing a setting or the software is not what you want/need.

Rejig can transcode MPEGs directly - or you could deliberately author oversize to your hard drive and use DVDShrink, DVD2One, Nero Recode etc etc to pull it back to size.
    If in doubt, Google it.

That's what I did - made a video ts with nero and then recoded it as a work around - glad to know that's reasonable. Guess I mentioned that above - sorry for repeating myself

I'm told you can import mpeg2s into dvd shrink, but it doesn't seem to see mpeg2s....?

No, you must import authored MPEG-2 files, in the form of IFO, BUP and VOB files into DVDShrink. It won't accept MPEG-2 files any other way.

As I said, I'd probably just author oversize then use DVDShrink.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I wish that program would work for me - I get a "burn failed" each time I try I've googled this issue, but can't seem to find an appropriate solution - know one? You're very smart, down under. Just had lunch with one an Aussi today - sharp as a tack. I digress....Have Nero linked to it for burning.

Really attempting to fix this myself, but I think I'm lost - not just a lazy question. My media's fine, I've lowered the target size, nada.
