I have 1 hour and 45 minutes of Hydro racing that I fit to a single DVD at VBR 5500 average, 6500 peak and 4000 minimum with Closed GOP One I frame, P-4 B-1 Max GOP at 15 and Highest Quality, and the resulting M2V file was 4.1 gig which is in the ballpark. But when I am panning and following boats that are moving 80 mph, everything behind the boats and the water is getting blocky. What settings should I change to get better movement? These settings normally work good for me but I never make DVD's with this much action. Thaks for anyones help.

6500 max is really low for a max IMO.

Try a min of 2000, ave of 5500 and a max of 9000.

If this doesn't provide a suitable result, you may find that you won't be able to fit much more than an hour's worth of footage on a SL DVDR if it is high motion all the time, and if retaining the highest quality is your aim. In this case, either use a DL DVDR, or just do a CBR 9000 encode and split to 2 SL DVDRs.
    If in doubt, Google it.

....also use open gop's and max 2 consecutive B frames (closed GOP's will increase the filesize and give you slightly worse results)
Sorry, I had to go see about a girl

  4. You might be better off switching to a different MPEG 2 encoder. TMPGEnc isn't the greatest with this type of video. See this thread:

Thanks.... I will start it encoding this morning and see how your settings worked. I always used to use open GOPs but ran into a problem on a project and read somewhere that closed GOPs had wider compatability. But before I made the change everything worked.... just this one projectt aht had lots of stills. I'll post herre tomorrow and let you know the results.
