I jsut purchased a pack of 5 Vakoss DVD-RWs from Staples... However when I attempt to format these discs I get the message these disc are "write protected, please unlock...." I know you can write protect DVD-RAM discs but not DVD-RW....
Any suggestions....????

Looks like you purchased 4X DVD-RW media instead of 2X. Your recorder cannot use 4X DVD-RW media for recording, better exchange them for some 2X DVD-RW media.

Thanks for the reply...but Memorex and Maxell DVD-RW I've been using are 4x.... The manual also mentions 2x and 4x can be used....

Where did you get Maxell 4X DVD-RW media in the first place? I've only seen Maxell 2X DVD-RW media available so far. If your model is actually the D-R2, note that 4X DVD-R is not the same as 4X DVD-RW. Is the model of your recorder D-R2 or the newer D-R4? There is a big difference between these two, and 4X DVD-R is not the same as 4X DVD-RW as mentioned before.Originally Posted by kenmo
