TY, assuming it's legit, is rated much better than ritek.

  3. I have been doing a big family project with material going back to the 1980's. I was using Ritek disks when I started, but compatibility was very important since the relatives had everything from the lowest priced Cyberhome, Apex, etc. players to some very high end models. I was getting complaints about playback with the Riteks so I was lucky Supermediastore let me exchange for some TY's. They did not have Verbatim at the time so I ordered some from RIMA.

I settled on TY, X4, dvd-r although the Verbatim ( MCC ) seemed just as good. I have burned more than 400 TY's with a failure rate of about 1%. Verbatim labels disks made by other manufacturers such as MCC ( Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. ) so I can only say the MCC disks seemed very good.

I am not sure that this fully answers your question though because a clean burn and compatibility with other players is not necessarily the same. For example, the Ritek's seemed to be clean burns but played poorly in some machines.

I have use over 200 of each and the only real difference I noticed with my setup was the TY burned @ 8x on my nec-3520a and the RITEK burned only @ 4. The RITEK ARITA and the TY are both quality and I would use either with confidence. BTW stand-alone compatability was excellent with both...

  5. I had a similar experience recently with TY X4 media burning at X8. At the moment I have two, 100 packs of TY X4, dvd-r's. Both have identical labels but one burns at X4 and the other at X8.

A check using DVDInfoPro showed that one pack was TYG01 ( X4 ) and the other is actually TYG02 ( X8 ) media.

  8. Arita used to be (I don't know if it still is) Ritek's B grade or lower media.

Ritek often gets bad press here, but in the UK we don't appear to see the problems other people have reported in the past. If you don't like Ritek media, I would guess you would HATE Arita... at best they're probably overprints but expect dye flaws.

That is true. Traxdata is A grade.

  10. There are folks in this forum who regularly trash Ritek media - but I have always had excellent performance with Ritek media as long as the burner is one which properly supports it. For example - Ritek G04 DVD-R media works flawlessly in my Sony 510a burner - but Ritek G05 8x dvd-r media will not burn at all. And the rpoblem is NOT with the Ritek G05 media - because the same batch which fails in the Sony burns flawlessly in my newer Benq 1620 burner. I should add that I've always used Ritek branded and internally identified media - not Arita.

On the other hand, TY has an excellent reputation - and consistently low error rates after burning - and the only reason I haven't used TY is it never seems to be very competitively priced.

I suggest you identify the brand and model number of your burner and search in the media section of this web-site to see what specific experience folks have had with what types of media in your specific burner. You might also check on the burner manufacturer's web-site to identify what brands/speed media have been tested and certified by the manufacturer of your burner.

Because Ritek changed G05 dye formular end of last year (without changing manufacturer ID), your firmware has to be new enough. You can check your firmware version against this compatibility list:
