  1. A friend has transfered some old VHS film onto DVD for me using the Sanyo DRW-1000.

Unfortunately it won't play in either of my DVD standalones and when I try to view the files in windows it just says "unknown file format"

I've just read through the online instruction manual and I'm guessing he hasn't finalized the disc. I've just spent over 2 hours searching the internet to see if anyone else has had the same experience and found a way to view and grab the video for re-burning... but no luck

It would be a great help if someone here knew of a way. My friend is in the US and I'm UK. He's very busy and I feel cheeky asking him to re do it when it's took him over 2 months to do this one

Any help would be greatly appreciated

  2. I would see if any store in your area has one of these Sanyos. Tell them what happened and see if they will let you come in and finalize the disk. It only takes a few minutes.

  3. It doesn't seem to be stocked in the UK

Damn ... Baldrick was too quick in locking your other post ...

I haven't used ISOBuster much, but from my hazy memory I *think* you need to select "Extract but filter only M2F2 Mpg frames" from the context menu when you right-click.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Yeah, that's what I did
I firstly extracted the biggest file to a .tao file then from that file had the option to extract as an .mpg, which I did but the resulting .mpg is 0 bytes.
Do I need to register Isobuster for full functionality or something?

I seem to recall reading somewhere that DVDDecrypter can finalise discs.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  8. DVDDecrypter reports "disc is empty". Even though I know that's not the case.

*edit> I'm just trying something else....

If it were me, I'd send the disc back to your friend and ask him to finalise it. Shouldn't take up too much of his time.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  10. Progress!

I've found if I load the previously made image, right click and select "Find missing files and folders" it recovers the vob files. Yay!

Only trouble is it won't let me extract them without paying the registration fee

Now I'm not a cheapskate but I don't really want to pay for something that I probably will never use again. Is there a similar application that'll do the same job for zero moolah?

  11. Ok, after much frustration trying other tools that didn't work I caved in and purchased the full version of IsoBuster.

I now have 4 recovered vob files and after searching the "how to" section I found this: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/120021.php

Could someone tell me if that is the easiest way to get the file structure I need to re-burn to DVD, or is there an easier way?

    Thanks.
