I have a cheap capture card and a Studio DC10+ MJPEG capture card in my PC.
The cheap capture card (cheap TV tuner card) gives basically lousy results, even via SVIDEO....I get visual noise and distortion on the left side of the picture no matter which setting or channel I use. The advantage is that any capture software can use this card.
I dont have any of those problems using the Studio DC10 capture card.
The problem HERE however, is that ONLY STUDIO 7 seems to actually be able to use the card to do captures.
I've tried using VIRTUADUB...it can't see the Pinnacle card....I've tried using iuVCR, it SEES The card but only captures junk.
So, fine, I'll use Studio 7 to capture my videos. But them I'M STUCK.
Because the AVI files that get created by capturing through the DC10 don't seem to be compatible with TMPGENC!!!! Which means I can't do any editing or converting to MPEG!!!!!
Even if I use Studio7 to re-render the file as an AVI, TMPGENC can't seem to do anything with it. But Mediaplayer Classic will play the raw captured AVI files no problem, and VirtuaDub can see and open them. TMPGENC can't doa nything with them though.
No matter what settings I choose in TMPGENC, I can't seem to open any AVI file that gets output by Studio7.
Any ideas here? This is killing me....
Many Thanks!

I once had a DC10+ (I think I still do have it around SOMEWHERE) but I endured similar frustations as you are now experiencing, with only Studio 7 being able to get halfway decent results, and then you're faced with getting your caps out of it in decent shape. I bit the bullet and dropped a few $$$ on a ADVC-100, and I haven't looked back. In fact, my very first post at this great forum asked about getting this card to work with virtualdub:

As far as TMPGEnc not opening your AVIs, try outputting them to DV-AVI if possible (you may need the Panasonic DV Codec). Also, go to Option > Environmental Setting > VFAPI plug-in, and make sure that DirectShow Multimedia File Reader is given the highest priority:
If either of these steps don't work, maybe some other solutions at https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc.htm#problems may assist.
However my best advice is to let this card go the way of the dodo.If in doubt, Google it. -
Hey, thank you so much for the help. Couple of things. I just bought a Sony DCR-90 videocamera, and that has analog passthrough. Does that mean I can hook everything right into my camcorder if I wanted to and use it as a digital capture device!?!?!
Second, I took your advice and did some tinkering with TMPGENC, with no good results. I then went and found online the MJPEG codec that Pinnacle uses for the card, installed that, and no luck. TMPGENC doesn't use it I guess. SO THEN I did the panasonic DV codec, and tried to output the file as that type of AVI with Studio7. Again..no luck. :P It locked up and wouldn't output the file.
So finally, I saw that DV FORMAT was one of the settings that Studio 7 has natively for AVI file output.
So....I output in that format, AND IT WORKS!!!
So at least this way I can capture with Studio7 as an mjpeg AVI, output (which happened pretty quickly) to a DV AVI, and then TMPGENC sees that and can open it easily..then I can tweak, adjust and edit using it.
So....there is at least ONE mystery solved. True, I'm stuck with Studio 7....as I'm not sure of any other software that will actually work with the card reliably.
iuVCR certainly wont, and as has been stated VirtuaDub wont even see it.
Oh well someday I'll just pick up a Radeon AIW and use that I guess, or I suppose I could consider using my camcorder if I can indeed use it like that! -
Well at least you're getting somewhere
If your camera has analog passthrough then you should be able to hook up a TV or a VCR and use that as your TV tuner, then hook your camera up to your PC through firewire and it will effectively be "capturing" (it's not capturing, it's actually just a transfer) into DV-AVI, which is basically the same as what my ADVC-100 does.If in doubt, Google it.
