  1. I'm kind of new to the video encoding/decoding arena so bare with me plase.

    I used GSpot to look at which codec is available for my Divx/Xvid media files. But when I use the render option under DirectShow the video path is

    (S) --> AVI Splitter --> InterVideo MPEG4 Video Decoder --> DirectVobSub (auto-loading version) --> (R)

    I have both the latest stable Xvid and Divx codecs installed. Why is the directshow render not using these to decode my video. Is there a way to change it so it does use Xvid/Divx decoder instead of the Intervideo decoder as above. I mean is there a way to change the order so that direct show render uses Divx/Xvid to decode the video.

    The reason I ask is because I am not able to play some Xvid files with this Intervideo decoder.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

    Dam Intervideo decoder.
    Directshow works on a priority system. The filter with the highest priority (merit) is used and Intervideo must be set pretty high.

    My advice would be to unregister the interviedo decoder since it is basically useless.

    Just run regsvr32 /u mp4dec.ax or whatever the filter is called. There are two copies to, one in common files and the other in the windvd folder. I would get rid of both to be safe.

    You could also use codec sniper to remove it and any other codecs that are not used or corrupt.
