  1. I have some xvids which are 4:3 and 16:9 which I converted to vobs using DivxtoDVD in order to burn onto a DVD disc to watch on my widescreen TV.

The problem is that when I watch it on my widescreen, the picture is zoomed in too much, the outer edges of the video are off the screen. This applies for both the 16:9 vobs and 4:3 vobs. Now I did try the different aspects on my dvd player settings - 16:9, 4:3 pan&scan, 4:3 letterbox. It is still too much zoomed in. Also, when Im in component 1 on my tv, I cannot change the tv's aspect ratio. Also, the zoom out function on my dvd player doesnt help at all, because I'm already zoomed out as much as possible.

Here is the configuration of the converted VOB file for one of the 16:9 videos:

    Player Information:
    Player Region Code: 1
    Current Drive: D:
    Title Region Code: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

    Display Information:

    Display Mode: DirectDraw
    FourCC Code: YUY2
    Surface Type: Overlay

    Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Display Mode: Both Pan&scan and Letterbox
    Source picture resolution: 720x480 (525/60)
    Frame Rate: 30.00
    Source picture letterboxed: Not letterboxed
    Bitrate: 2.62Mbps

    Subpicture Attribute: Not Available

    Hardware Information:
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 FX-53 Processor running at 2411 MHz
    3DNow! Technology: In Use

Multispeaker Audio Device: Realtek AC97 Audio (not in use)

Here is another configuration for the 4:3 vob file:

    Player Information:
    Player Region Code: Not Specified
    Current Drive: D:
    Title Region Code: Not Available

    Display Information:
    Video Mode: Weave
    Display Mode: DirectDraw
    FourCC Code: YUY2
    Surface Type: Overlay

    Video Attributes:
    Video compression mode: MPEG-2
    TV system: 525/60 (NTSC)
    Aspect Ratio: 4:3
    Display Mode: Only Letterbox
    Source picture resolution: 720x480 (525/60)
    Frame Rate: 30.00
    Source picture letterboxed: Not letterboxed
    Bitrate: 5.01Mbps

    Subpicture Attribute: Not Available

So as you can see, I've tried all 3 aspect settings on my dvd player's settings and the video is still too zoomed in. Is there something I need to edit in the .IFO files or am I missing something? Note that my dvd player can't read xvids, which is why I had to convert them to DVD compliant files.
Thanks in advance, and sorry for the long post.

  3. Ok I see that you can use some programs to add black borders around the xvid file to compensate. However, this would require that I re-encode the xvid, then convert it again to vob. Is there a way to directly edit the vob file?

  4. Hmm, no way. Changing the frames require re-encoding. But you can go xvid-vob changing the frame in the process of converting. Unfortunately this can not be done with divxtodvd.
