I am trying to work out the best way to encode some DV footage I have captured using my Canopus card. The DV footage was captured from a PAL television broadcast, and according to the file information has captured at 25 frames per second (I'm sure on the Canopus card there is an option to switch between PAL and NTSC, and living in the UK, I chose PAL).
I am planning to watch the completed file using a TV-OUT graphics card. I have done a first attempt at converting the file, but there is a slight jerkiness to the footage, similar to when I accidentally set my cheap DVD player to output a R1 NTSC DVD to PAL on the fly. The graphics card has a number of TV-OUT formats, and reccommends PAL I to me. Its refresh rate is set at 60hz, and I was wondering if that may have something to do with it?
Anyway, I was wondering what the best format to encode the DivX would be - still PAL at 25fps, 640x480? Have I got my TV-OUT set to output at an incorrect format or rate, and this is causing the trouble? The jerkiness does not seem to be there when played back on my laptop screen. Or is my TV just not versatile enough? I have another TV which I use at university, and will be the principle device on which I view the files, which allows me to play more with the various display formats in the menu, but that is currently in storage, so I can't test it out at the moment.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Definitely keep it PAL, as your source is PAL and your TV's native format is PAL also. The jerkiness may just be that the TV-OUT can't handle the display of a DV file, @ some 13GB per hour. You may find that a DivX or XviD encode of that same file may play a bit better.
If in doubt, Google it.
