    1. uninstall every codec pack you installed as they are crap

    2. make sure they are uninstalled completly - every last trace

    3. reboot

    4. install ffdshow

Did you UNINSTALL all of your codec packs BEFORE installing ffdshow?

If not, do so (as stated by BJ_M).

It helps to follow instructions to the letter, grasshopper ...

You also need to make sure that MPEG2 is enabled in ffdshow otherwise it won't try and decode it.

yes i had uninstalled my nimo and klite codec packs. those are the ones i had tried. i did uninstalled ffdshow and installed the k lite codec pack and i can atcually get mpeg2 to play perfect but tmpgenc just wont open them. thats what i need to fix. and when i installed ffdshow i had everythign checked off so that isnt the problem.

just to let you all knwo i have a ati aiw 9600xt andi just installed the newest drivers and it started not working proper. and when i was uninstalling i sorta screwed up and it took me a long time to get it working but i think there is still a problem in the multimedia center.

As far as I can recall TMPGEnc only used to work with certain MPEG2 decoder filters. Not sure if that is still the case. There is always the MPEG2 VFAPI plugin or DGIndex.

well ive got all my ati driver stuff sorted out but the mpeg2 aint workin. if i can just get that to work i will be so happy. i got no packs installed and stinkys mpeg 2 decoder thin uninstalled. now what do i install to get mpeg2 to work in windows media player and tmpgenc? ffdshow didnt seem to work and im not sure that VFAPI is what i need. if for some reason i cant get it to work to open mpeg2 in both WMP and tmpgenc ill just make it so it opens in WMP all though it shoudl work in both.

    hope someone can help.
