    Hi,

My parents bought a set of dramas in DVD for my grandmother to watch and each dvd has about 2 episodes. There are 10 DVDS. I was wondering if i can combine 2 DVDs or more into one DVD since my grandma doesnt know how to use the DVD player. The dvds have menus.

    Thanx.

If she doesn't know how to use the DVD player, then what use is 5 DVDs with 4 episodes as opposed to 10 DVDs with 2 episodes ?

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

DVDRemakePro is probably the easiest way to do this if you want to retain all original menus. It just puts its own "top-level" menu above the existing menus of the two DVDs so that in effect, you get a choice between each DVD. It's as simple as Tools > Merge DVD, and you can merge up to 4 individual DVDs in any one go.

Bear in mind though that the physical size of each DVD is going to be a big factor in determining exactly what you can and can't do. Without knowing anything about your source makes it almost impossible to recommend anything with any great certainty. Also, you'd be well advised to be looking at possibly using DL DVDRs if you want to retain any sort of quality (again, depending on source DVDs length / quality / bitrate of course).

Once you have some sort of structure you want to use worked out, then you need to make decisions regarding quality. You may need to consider re-encoding or transcoding the material so that it fits, in which case DVDRB and/or DVDShrink will probably come in very handy. But again, since we have no idea of your source's runtime / quality / bitrate, it's almost impossible to recommend anything.

Ideally it would be great if you could list the size, running time and audio bitrate of each and every episode (the latest GSpot Beta can open VOB files directly).
    If in doubt, Google it.

Use DVD2one in movie only and seamless join mode.
It will play all the episodes immediatly with no menues, seamlessly when inserted to DVD-player.

  4. Can either of those two tools - DVD2One or DVDRemakePro put a movie with a menu that was split over two dvd-5's (second disc has no menu - just autoplays the next chapter) back into one DVD-9 in its original glory?

DVDREMAKE PRO is your friend. you can download the demo. yes you must pay for it but for what it can do it is very cheap. it can do this very easily. i have done it many times. there are also guides on the site for doing just this.

why not re-enc the dramas at vcd res & burn 10 to a disc....

she won't even notice the loss!!!! and you can make simple menus for it too!!

plus you won't need to change the discs for at least a couple of days!!!
