For the last 3 days or more I have bee fooling around with the wiring on my new DVD burner. In the manual that came with it, it shows ways to wire up the dish DVR to the recorder but none of the ways work except for 1 way, the coax way! A way I rather not take!
So my question is, does anyone have this setup working through an S-video cable or composites? The DVR I have is the 510. I hope someone can help me out cause I refuse to use coax on this thing, cause the quality is horrible!!!![]()

Hook up svideo from the 510 to the 220, select the correct input on the 220 and you'll be ready to record.

I hope I can help...
I have the 501 40Gb older version of the 510. I also have a Pioneer 531 HD equipped model.
The back of your 510 should have 2 sets of composite jacks (Red/White for audio & Yellow for Video). It will also have 1 S-Video jack. for the best picture use a s-video cable from the 510 and the red/white jacks for audio. Hook them up to the line input(s) on you 220, I'm not sure how many you have. I have my VC R hooked up through the TBC to line 1, My Apex Multitregion MV free hacked DVD hooked up to line 3 and the Dish box is hooked up in my case to line 2 in the front. Your 220 may be a little different. It may or may not have all the inputs. However it should have a line input on it. Hook into that and select the line input with your remote and it should be good to go. Alternatively use the 3 rca jack method yellow to yellow red to red and white to white.
Keep in mind that plugging in the S-Video cable disconnects the yellow jack.
If it still doesn't work you may have a bad cable or 220. The 510 should be good as you have been using it.
Good Luck -
There is a option for a different input? I have composites going from the DVD recorder to the tv, this won't affect it will it? Sorry, I don't know much about Video wiring.

The 510 has two set of composites on the back that are both active. It should feed the TV and the DVD recorder fine.

the way i have mine connected is;
dvr--s-video-->dvd burner--s-video-->tv
