  1. I downloaded an MPEG-1 file from a website couple of days ago and now
i am trying to convert it to MPEG-2 (NTSC-DVD Compalinant) but i am
    getting audio/video sync error.
I am not doing any Frame Rate Conversions.

    THE SOURCE FILE IS :
    VIDEO : MPEG-1 1.15 MB/s
    ASPECT RATIO : 4:3
    FRAME RATE : NTSC i.e. 29.970 Frames/Sec
    352 x 240

    AUDIO : MPEG-2 64 Kb/s
    44.1 KHz

Actually the source file is NTSC VCD compaliant with a little difference
    i.e. Audio is 64 Kb/s rather than 224 KB/s

I am putting this file in the MainConcept MPEG Encoder v1.42 and Outputing
an Elementary NTSC DVD Video File with these settings.

    VIDEO
    Constant Bitrate
    MPEG-2 6.0 MB/s
    NTSC 29.970
    4:3
    720x480

I am encoding Audio file in Surcode DVD DTS and outputting a DTS 5.1 file with bitrate 1.536 MB/s. (48.0 KHz)

Finnaly i am authoring it with DVDlab-Pro 1.53 and the target file is out of sync.
Audio frames are coming before the video frames.
I have also tried to convert the Audio file to Dolby Digital 5.1 and DD 2.0 with Sonic Foundry Soft Encode but i am still experiencing the sync error.

Finally i tried to Output the Program(Audio/Video) DVD Compailant Video file in MainConcept Mpeg Encoder v1.42 but still can't get rid of sync problem.
    What a pain in ass.

    Help would be greatly appreciated.

NOTE : The source file have no Audio/Video sync problem.

Don't convert it, it's already dvd compliant. Just author and burn.

  3. Cuz the source file is in MPEG-1 standard as i stated above and i think the DVD standard is MPEG-2 so encoding must have to be done first.
    Anyone knows another good solution.

According to the DVD spec, your MPEG-1 Video is DVD compliant, but the audio needs to be converted to 48KHz. However many players will accept the 44.1 KHz as-is. Try it on a RW and if it won't play then demux and convert only the audio.

TDA will author and convert the audio at the same time.

PS - Check "What is DVD" on the top left side of the page for DVD specs if you're not sure. Do not re-encode as you will only lower the quality.

Yep, the video side of your file is perfectly fine for DVD - MPEG-1 29.976fps @ 352 x 240 is fine - see https://www.videohelp.com/dvd#tech for more info. Just load into TMPGEnc DVD Author (30 day fully functional free trial) and it will do the upsample to 48KHz on the audio for you.

BTW, there's no point converting 64kbps MP2 to DTS 5.1 1536kbps. If Pro Logic is available, you may find advantage in converting to 2ch AC3 with ffmpeggui if you want quasi-surround sound, but a bitrate over 192kbps is just overkill IMO considering your source.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  7. Thanks guys for the help, TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6 worked perfect and i got rid of the sync problem.I think DVD Authoer v2.0 is soon to be out so i must wait for it to purchase.

    @jimmalenko
I was converting it to DTS b/c i had enough space.I was abt to fit only 57 min movie on a Single Layer DVD.
