I have DVDs I backed up using DVDShrink on my PC, but my DVD burner just broke. Luckily I have an iMac with a DVD burner, but never used it for anything related to DVD backup before.

How do I burn DVDs backed up/shrunk with DVDShrink (VIDEO_TS folders) on a Mac?

    TIA

There's no good free DVD burning software for the Mac as there is for the PC. The standard burning program is Roxio Toast, which allows no free trial and will cost you the better part of $100. (A new burner for your PC might well cost less.)

Once you have Toast, you just drag the VIDEO_TS folder into the Toast Window, and it will burn a DVD. Just make sure your Toast settings are set to burn a VIDEO DVD. It's very easy to burn a Data DVD by mistake instead. A data DVD will play just like the right kind on many computers, but it won't be recognized by stand-alone DVD players.

One alternative to buying Toast: Use the burning software on your PC to create a disk image file of a complete DVD in the .DMG format. If you get that onto your Mac, you can then burn it to a disk just using Apple's Disk Utility app, which is in the utilities folder.

Of course, with no disk burner on your PC, you have the problem of how to get that 4.3gb file from the PC to the Mac. if you can connect the two computers via a wired ethernet network, you can copy it in about an hour. Otherwise, it's going to take a LONG time.

  4. If your "shrunk" DVDs are in Video_TS folder format, you can burn DVDs from the Finder. But will need to possibly create a Audio_TS folder (empty) to go with it.

Insert a blank DVD, it will apear on desktop, drag Audio_TS and Video_TS folder into it, give it a name, and burn [this assums you've set up your CD/DVD prefs to mount blank discs on desktop.

You can use DVD Imager to create the UDF disc image which you can burn to a video DVD with Disk Utility.

"You could give Dragon Burn a try." Yes you could, but don't expect much. It doesn't work. It will appear to burn a disk just fine, but it will be full of dropouts and freezes. I don't believe the product is even supported any more.

I've given Dragon Burn a try and it seem to work perfectly, though the freezes and drop outs worry me (I've seen a little bit of that when skipping chapters).

I'll give the other solutions mentioned a try too.

    thanks again everyone

Once you have a VIDEO_TS folder on your HD, my
preferred soution is Roxio's "Popcorn" ($30 at buy.com
after rebate). Popcorn compresses (as needed) the
video and burns the DVD in one simple step (Press
    the big red button).
