adding subtitles

hi good day to everyone
i downloaded a video and subtitle (.avi and .srt) i want it to convert to mpeg with subtitle then author it to make a dvd can anyone help me with i just taken up this hobby i'm new with all this stuff so please help.

Depending on what conversion software that you plan to use, you can search here for a Divx to DVD conversion guide.

If you want a switchable subtitle, then you need a DVD authoring software such as DVDlab Pro. If you want a permanent subtitle, you can just encode into the DVD. In this case, a simple authoring software will do e.g. TMPGenc Author.

or use an all-in-one tool, thefilmmachine, avi2dvd, diko, divxtodvd(easiest to use) supports srt.

thanks for the help guys i used mainconcept for encoding and dvdlab pro for authoring and adding subtitles it works fine. theres one more thing hope you can help me the video i downloaded has an aspect ratio of 640x428 (1.50:1) [~3:2] when i encoded it i used 720x576, 4:3 what i wanted is to watch it in full screen without the black bars please help... thanks in advance
