  1. In this case the FX is a "film look" filter. I've imported the original avi and its sound track into Vegas and have set up the effect as a track effect on the original avi.

I now want to merge the original avi with its FX and save/export the result as a new avi file that can be edited further. It sounds embarassingly simple but so far I'm not having much luck here.

Any suggestions on how to do this properly will be much appreciated.

    Cheers.

It should be as simple as rendering it out as a new avi using File->Render, then loading this back into the timeline.

That said, I would suggest you instead save the FX chain for reuse, then reapply it as needed while you edit the original clip, rather than re-encoding and risking unnecessary degradation. Saved FX chains are very powerful in Vegas now. As time permits I am slowly building a collection of FX chains that mimic some of the better Magic Bullet effects, for as much as I love some of the looks provided, they are unusably slow.

  3. Hell...you read my mind guns1inger. I've been screwing around most of today wondering why Magic Bullet rendering is so slow. I came across another reference to it as being tedious but with classy results.

Anyway, thanks for your reply and the tip re the FX chain. I'm getting a sense of what you're talking about.
