    http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/PhotoFiltre/photofiltre.html

PhotoFiltre is a complete image editing and effects package, that will not only amaze you with features but also the fact that it is free (for personal use). It comes with many features that rival some commercial packages, as well as additional add-on that can be downloaded from the web site. PhotoFiltre offers all the standard editing features (selection, clone brush, paint brush etc.) as well as a large selection of image effects, photo masks, image adjustments, thumbnail browser and much more. The program also supports batch processing to apply filters, sizing, adjustments and transformations to a large number of images at once. PhotoFiltre comes with modern, well designed interface and is well suited for everything from simple resizing to advanced photo editing.

7 zip kinda sucks. The format is awesome but last I checked the 7zip default interface was really bad.

I wasn't too impressed with it after giving it a go. Many had recommended it, but the interface designers beat it with the ugly stick before rolling it out. It also didn't seem to integrate with explorer's right-click menus too well.

    I do like snapfiles though.

7Zip Sucks ? Come on, the app can open just about every format out there, including the newer RARs. Give it a shot before summarily dismissing it.

Update its better but one thing that really pissed me off about 7zip. If you click the copy button and look at the path then try to just type in another path it can't create it.

Exampe. It already says C:\Stuff in the path so you just add it to to make C:\Stuff\extracted it will error and not be smart enough to make a dir called extracted.

Thanks, Soopafresh, for the link to 7Zip.

A freeware program that opens such a wide variety of archives is a welcome addition to my e-toolbox. I tested it on most of the formats it is supposed to extract from, and it worked fine.

I also tried the native 7Z compression format on a randomly selected directory of jpeg files (just because jpegs don't compress all that well), and got about 20% reduction in size. Winzip used on the same directory gave about a 15% reduction in size.

As to the interface, I don't use programs because of the interface, I use them because they do a job.

Flaystus, I tried your example (using the copy button, and manually changing the path) and it worked fine on my computer. Maybe it's because I tried it on my lucky computer.

  10. Thanks for the link to PhotoFiltre, I've been using 'paint', so this should be an improvement.
