  1. Hi people,
I've been burning some vcd's i've got off the net and finally decided to et a dvd player for the computer and start ripping some. I installed it last night, had some initaal problems but finally got it up and running. But when i play a dvd the sound or picture or both skip around alot. is my processor not good enough, video card or sound card bad or what. i just wanna be able to rip dvd, convert to vcd and burn and watch on stand alone apex dvd player. but i would like to know what is causing the problem. and will this affect my ability to rip and burn? will the burned movie play like that on my srtandalone? thanks in advance for the help.

Hmmm, a bit confusing what you wrote. But I think if I understood you correctly you bought a DVD Drive for your PC and are wondering about the sudden short stops and starts. If that is correct, it will be due to many things. 1. The capabilities of your processor 2.) The DVD Playersoftware you are using on the PC and 3.) at which screen resolution you are watching the DVD - full screen mode @ 1280 x 1024 at a 24bit resolution will take quite a bit of processing power. Now as you can see you can adjust certain things, some more complex and expensive (processor upgrade) some more easy, and less expensive (changing screen resolution or not watching at full screen).

The actual viewing of your DVD now and the later ripping and converting has nothing to do with what you are experiencing at the moment. If you convert/rip/encode/burn a test clip you'll see that it will play smoothly on your standalone DVD Player.... providing it takes the media and can actually play VCD's, SVCD's or whatever you encode.

I use a crappy 330Mhz processor and the screen at highest resolution and use WinDVD to watch the movie. I will change the resolution of the screen adn sie and see if that helps. and look for new player software. any suggestions on which software to use? thanks for the help.

Try the resolution solution first and see that background programs aren't running. I think you'll see improvement.
