  1. We called Hauppauge last week and they recommended purchasing the 150 for removing Macrovision from VHS tapes. We are having some difficulties and have made several toll calls to the company in New York without much support., accept they assured us we don't need any special cables like the A/V cable they show in their service manual.

When you try to capture with Ulead which comes bundled, a sign comes up saying: MPEG capture does not accept HCW 2 Codec, it is recommended to use Codec (1) YUV codec first, then (2) RGB- 24 codec.

We were ready to purchase the A/V cables (S-Video) from the store, when the gentleman mentioned over the phone we needed a RGB driver besides because this cable will only correct some of the problems.

Two questions, do we really need special cables and what is this RBG driver?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.......

  2. What is the source, and how have you got it hooked up?
Did you do a full install of all the software on the disk?
Are you trying to use winTV2000 to capture?
Have you updated the drivers and encoder from the Hauppauge website?

I have never heard of anyone else having this problem.
Grab a cheap set of composite cables, plug them from the VCR to the card.
Set the capture software to composite video, and line in audio.
    It just works.

As Reboot said it best to just used WinTV2000 and edit your clip with VideoReDo or Womble MPEG2VCR, MPEG Video Wizard import your clip in to Ulead DVD MovieFactory.

  4. Out of the three RCA plugs, would S-Video have two of those plugs for audio and one for video? There is only one plugin for the composite on the back of the capture card (Hauppauge) and it's only for video.

Yes I downloaded all the latest drivers, ect. from the Hauppauge website the other day and we were still having problems. We called the tech support at Hauppauge the other day, he mentioned not to capture from Ulead but to go into WinTV 2000, although we couldn't get that to work either. We are real real newbies to Videos, anything we have learned has been in this Video Help Forum.

I am sure there is nothing with this WinTV 150, the problem is on our end, although the Canopus is pretty simple to operate and understand....but no doubt it's us....

  6. Thank you SHS, before I email you, we are going to start all over again, I will delete everything out and reinstall the software/drivers from the disk and reinstall all the latest downloads I have from the other day. We completely bypassed the WinTV 2000 and that probably is our biggest problem, along with the cable setup. Where the confused came in for us, they talk about capturing off television and we aren't interested in capturing off the television, only the VCR.

Hopefully we will be able to work this out.......

  9. StoneColdWhat, one time it actually played the movie using the WinTV PVR 150, where it wouldn't using the Canopus capture, it was completely black...so it does remove the MV....

SHS, would this link apply for the 150? Could one use these settings for the 150?

  16. I wish to extend my thank you's for the help and responses and especially to SHS!

The problem was definitely on our end. My husband made his own cables, so we never purchased any additionally cables, plus we we were trying to capture in Ulead instead of using WinTV 2000, this was my fault I should have caught this myself.

This WinTV PVR 150 is truly a remarkable piece of equipment, StoneColdWhat if you could get yours to work for you, I do believe you will quite pleased with the capture results as we are. The quality of the picture is crisp and clear, much much better then using the Canopus 300, although I am not knocking the Canopus because I realize it has to do with with software also.

My husband feels though with Hauppauge there could be better help especially for newbies, because we had two other capture devices besides the Canopus, with all three there wasn't a single problem with using or understanding the setup and then proceed with the capture.
