i recently got an error " unmountable boot volume" and this problem proceeded when i found it that the computer would freeze during the XP cd installation, it freezes exactly after i press "R" or "ENTER" with it saying "Examining 76348 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on viasraid..." it is a SATA drive and i do press F6 for it to detect the drive
i really need help thanx

Have you tried any third party utility that can examine/repair the disk, like Parition Magic? SOunds like your Master Boot Record got messed up. If you can manage to get to the recovery console, try running : fixmbr.
You can also do:
fixmbr \Device\HardDisk0, but fixmbr assumes your boot drive.
When you hit F6, does it successfully locate and load the SATA adapter? If so, your hard drive may be on the verge of dying.
Also, try connecting the drive to a different SATA port on the mainboard/PCI card. You may have to go into BIOS and turn off SATA1 and turn on SATA2 (assuming device assignments).

thanx a lot for replying, this is all new hardware from less than a year ago, i cannot access recovery, the xp disk boots up but as soon as i press R or ENTER the computer freezes, i installed the HDD on my other pc and it worked formated it from there and was working fine, got the same problem when i reintalled it into my other machine, could this maybe be the mobo?

ohh and i forgot yes it detects the F6 drivers when im installing it
