I've never had to convert to MPG to edit in vegas!!!! Don't know all what you mean there. Besideds, you would never want to edit MPG anyway.

Are you capturing from DV or analog and are you using Vegas to capture?
Once the footage is in the HD is obtained through Vegas, it automatically opens in Vegas. Now after editing, if you want an MPG file, then and only then do you convert your complete edit to MPG2 if you are then going to use Architec to author it to DVD/R
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

From now on when somebody say AVI, I'm assuming uncompressed. Sure Vegas will edit AVI files!

You may be opening a religion war here....<grin>

Most editors will handle AVI files, including the Sony product.

I have used Adobe Premier through several versions, from 5 to Pro. Recently, I purchased Puremotion's Editstudio 5. This is used to edit AVI files from my digital JVC camcorder, as was Premier.

1 What capture specs are you using in WinAVI_Video_Converter? Something like 352x 240, YUY2 with 16bit 48KHz audio?

2 What are the project settings in Vegas? Best if you use the same settings for project and capture format. Otherwise Vegas will need to convert your capture to the project format.

For example, if you capture uncompressed AVI, it is best to edit uncompressed AVI and then encode the result to MPeg2 for DVD.

  7. oops!!...i meant i use WinDVD Creator 2 to capture, and then WinAVI Converter to convert th avi's to mpg's...and the only setting for AVIs in WinDVD Creator is AVI with AVI profile and I am using the NTSC DV template in Vegas...also I cant capture video in Vegas....i can hear the audio but no video shows up in the preview...and the capture butting is disabled

Also I am using a Leadtek Winfast Tv2000 deluxe capture card

You need to rethink what you are doing. If I get this right you are doing this?

    AVI uncompressed -> Mpeg2DVD -> DV - - - > ?? MPeg2DVD??

    Why that?

If your goal is to edit in Vegas and make a DVD then

AVI capture 720x480 or 352x480, YUY2 etc 48kHz audio in Vegas or other program.
Edit in Vegas with same project format.

Encode DVD MPeg2 in Vegas or frameserve to a different encoder.
    Then author the DVD.

I agree with the other posts here - capture to AVI, edit AVI, and convert to mpeg as the final step only if needed.

Vegas will edit AVI files. If it won't read your AVI files, then something is not right in the setup with WinDVD Creator.

WinDVD Creator seems like an odd choice for capturing. Was there any other software supplied with the Leadtek card?

You can't capture to DV format without a hardware codec (e.g. DV camcorder or ADVC). Computers won't be able to do that until CPU's go much faster, maybe in 2007-09?

Set Vegas to project settings above.

I think the problem is you had was your Vegas project settings. Change project from DV to match AVI uncompressed capture settings and it should work. It may be easier if you just capture in Vegas at the above project settings.

Vegas isnt taking my uncompressed audio from WinDVD Creator or WinFast PVR...but as soon as i put any kinda codec in there vegas is fine with it...and so far huffy v2.2.0 has given me the best quality out of all the codecs...if theres a "codec" for uncompressed avi could i have it??...cause vegas isnt liking my uncompressed at all

Huffyuv will work fine. It is a lossless compression codec.
Uncompressed settings describe the sampling and byte order. Examples are YUY2, UYVY (most common). You want 720x480 or 704x480, 29.97 fps. I have no idea what the selections are in WinDV Creator. Usually the capture card driver presents the capture selection choices

For audio look for WAV or PCM 16 bit 48KHz.

For Vegas, a project setting my look like this.

edited to show lower field first

  15. wow this really sucks now....the WinFast way isnt the most efficient...i can capture and import the videos properly using the huffy codec but i have to capture 5-10 mins at a time because any longer than that gives me a movie that is out of sync!....and i tried capturing with vegas but this is what it looks like

and windvd has absolutely no options for codecs or anything...just says avi

See if you can find the card capture options in the Vegas Capture App - Video Menu

I can see all my ATI AIW options there with a ton of choices.

Maybe you need to reinstall the Leadtek Tv2000 driver or get a better one on their website.

Interesting side note, My ATI AIW levels are dead on with the tuner capture under Vegas.

  17. OK...i have all of those options...but the crappy video comes when i use the RBG settings under color space/compression, UYVY isnt there and if i use the YUY2 setting then i get an error after i press stop after the capture. I have to use the I420 setting for it to work. Quality is great!...i really dont know why the YUY2 setting isnt working, and i guess the software/hardware of our capture cards must differ a lot...maybe ill just get another card but this will due for now....

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOU HELP!!!!
